KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed the arrest of an alleged terrorist – said to be affiliated with India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) – and recovered explosives and weapons from his possession in Karachi.
Mansoor Ali alias Aneel, member of the Asghar Shah group and supported by RAW, was apprehended with at least a kilogram of explosive material, two receivers, det cord, a land mind and a pistol.
The Asghar Shah group is involved in sabotage and other terrorist activity in Sindh.
According to reports, Shah fled from Pakistan and is in touch with India’s foreign intelligence agency. He also allegedly provides targets, arms and ammunition to terrorist organisations of Balochistan.
These activities include installing IEDs on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, sensitive installations, railway lines and gas pipelines to damage them, harming officers of civil organisations and law enforcement agencies and attacks on law enforcement personnel.
According to SSP Kemari, the group has increased its activities in the recent past and their purpose is to ruin Pakistan’s image on an international level.
The arrested member of the group was allegedly trained in India and has been involved in transportation of ammunition, IEDs and pistols to various areas.
A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is underway.
